NICEIC installer

As a NICEIC approved contractor, Chorlton Electric are assessed on

a regular basis to ensure that they are competent and capable of meeting the relevant technical and safety standards. Being registered under the NICEIC means that Chorlton Electric Ltd is approved to undertake domestic electrical work in accordance with Part P Building Regulations. 

At the end of any works affected by Part P, Chorlton Electric Ltd will notify the NICEIC of the works completed and you will receive a Building Compliance Certificate from the NICEIC so that you know that the work has been registered with your Local Authority Building Control. By using Chorlton Electric Ltd you therefore do not need to submit a building notice or pay the costly, extra Building Control inspection fee. In addition, any works undertaken by Chorlton Electric Ltd which are notifiable to Building Control under Part P are covered by the NICEIC Insurance Backed Warranty.

What is Part P?

Part P is an amendment of the Building Regulations introduced

by the Government, effective from 1st January 2005.

Part P applies to fixed electrical installations in homes, including gardens and shared amenities in blocks of flats, and affects many of the jobs undertaken by electricians, particularly in kitchens and bathrooms.

Work affected by Part P is subject to notification to local building control bodies. All works must either be inspected by these local authorities incurring an extra, expensive fee or can be undertaken by an electrician who has been assessed by a Competent Persons Scheme such as the NICEIC and is therefore able to self-certify. 

At the end of the works, Chorlton Electric Ltd will inform the NICEIC of works undertaken and you will subsequently receive a Building Compliance Certificate from the NICEIC confirming that the works have been registered with your Local Authority Building Control.

NICEIC Insurance

Backed Warranty

All works undertaken by Chorlton Electric which are notifiable to Building Control under Part P are backed by the NICEIC Insurance Backed Warranty. 

The purpose of the warranty is to protect clients should any electrical works be found not to comply with the Building Regulations under circumstances where the contractor is no longer in business to undertake the necessary remedial work.The Financial limit placed on the work is £25,000 in respect of any one installation per period of insurance and the warranty is valid for a period of 6 years from the date of completion of the original work.

What is an Electrical Installtion Condition Report?

An Electrical Installation Condition Report is issued following an inspection of the condition of an existing electrical installation to identify any deficiencies against the national safety standard for electrical installations. 

The inspection covers;

  • Earthing and bonding
  • Consumer unit
  • Switches, sockets and
  • light fixings
  • Type/age of wiring used
  • Outdoor power
  • Wear and tear, damage, deterioration
  • DIY installations
  • Overloaded circuits
  • Potential electric shock risks and
  • fire hazards

How often should I have my installations tested?

  • Every time a property is being prepared
  • to let
  • 10 years for a domestic installation
  • 5 years for rented property
  • 5 years for a commercial installation
  • Change of tenancy
  • Prior to selling a property or when buying a previously owned property
